Palawan travel guide: Puerto Princesa, El Nido or Coron?
Palawan is a whole province, not a single beach town. This guide helps you choose between Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Coron before you lose days trying to fit all three into one trip.
The most useful thing to know before planning Palawan is that Palawan is not one destination. Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Coron are separate bases with different strengths, and moving between them takes real time.
Puerto Princesa
Puerto Princesa is the provincial capital and a practical base when the Underground River is high on your list. It also gives you access to Honda Bay and a wider range of city services.
El Nido
El Nido is the Palawan many travelers recognize from photos: limestone cliffs, lagoons and boat days around Bacuit Bay. Choose it when island-hopping is the main reason for the trip. Give yourself more than one full day when possible because weather can change boat plans.
Coron
Coron combines limestone scenery, clear lakes and well-known wreck-diving sites. You do not need to scuba dive to enjoy the area; island trips, viewpoints and lake visits make it a strong active destination on its own.
For four or five nights, choose one Palawan base. With seven to nine nights, two can work if you are comfortable using a meaningful part of one day for the transfer. Trying to do all three in a short week usually creates more transit than holiday.
